Paula

Hi there, my name is Paula, thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Over the years I have accumulated several years of experience in various organisations including working for a National charity supporting individuals with Bereavement issues including loss and Grief.
Loss can mean many things to us all, such as loss of life, loss of friendship, loss of Job etc. there may be times within our lives when we attend talking therapies to work through our thoughts and feelings.

I have extensive experience of working within an educational setting (for young adults from age sixteen and over who are attending an educational establishment).with clients diagnosed with conditions such as autism and associated learning difficulties and I have incorporated techniques into my counselling work, using them as a way of breaking down any communication barriers or difficulties that individuals may have  communicating verbally, enabling clients  to express how they are feeling and engage in the counselling experience.

I have completed a  BA Honours degree in Counselling, which included my dissertation which was centred around the dearth of counselling needed for older clients including those diagnosed with Dementia, Parkinson's, loss of sight etc; I have spent many months talking to mature individuals and their families about the need for a support/counselling service. I offer counselling/listening service for the mature individual and their families.

My counselling experience also includes working with individuals who have brain acquired injuries such as, stroke, road traffic accident injuries etc, supporting clients who are coping in a crisis with issues such as anxiety, loss, anger, depression and grief. Empowering individuals to live independently and work through any concerns they may have to support and improve their perception of life, I have a committed track record of building a rapport with clients in order to aid them to find resolution for issues they have brought to counselling.

The core of my practice is person centred counselling, which places high value on the unique experience of the individual and trustworthiness I support the individual to take responsibility to find their own solutions to their issues and difficulties. I strive to enhance my knowledge in the counselling field by attending monthly continuous personal development, also accessing training in areas which will help me to enhance my client’s positive session experience

It is central to my work that I am non-judgmental, honest and empathetic and trust in the client.  Additionally, where needed, I would endeavour to integrate additional ways of working such as art therapy which may further enhance the counselling experience for the client.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and adhere to their ethical principles; my membership number is 177042 which can be viewed on the B.A.C.P register. I hold Professional Indemnity Insurance and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.
